Just 20 minutes south of the City of Ottawa and 15 minutes west of Manotick, you’ll find the small rural village of North Gower. Established in 1846, this community was originally home to the area’s first farmers and shop workers. Along with several other municipalities in 2001, North Gower became part of Ottawa and has continued to thrive as a quaint but lively neighbourhood.

North Gower features all your essential amenities including a central general store, a hardware store, a cluster of independent restaurants, a local farmers market held at the Alfred Taylor Recreation Centre, and more wrapped up in the charm of a small town. There’s a bowling alley and public library where residents can enjoy family-friendly fun and entertainment, while nature enthusiasts can hike through Marlborough Forest and spend time outdoors at the Horace Seabrook Park.

Most homes in the centre of this serene village are single-family detached brick homes of older construction in classic farm-house style, with some dating back to the late 19th century. Properties have generous lots and are surrounded by mature greenery, with newer construction homes and some estate properties situated on the edges of North Gower. With a range of real estate options and close proximity to HWY 416, North Gower is ideal for families looking for a laid-back lifestyle and traditional community while living close enough to the city for an easy commute.

Why we love North Gower

The village is flanked by the Rideau River and the Marlborough Forest which construct a picturesque backdrop of natural beauty, in addition to the endless fields and rolling hills. Adding to North Gower’s charm, several original structures in the village are still standing, including the City of Ottawa Archives building.

In true small town fashion, everyone knows everyone, so North Gower residents enjoy a tight-knit sense of community. Several small businesses pepper the village—including a hair salon, ice cream shop, and mechanic—which serve as the primary employers of the area. If you want to learn more about North Gower, you can chat up the bartender at the Marlborough Pub and Eatery where most residents gather regularly to dine and socialize.
