How often have you seen furniture at the ends of driveways in your neighbourhood and just knew the pieces had lots of life left in them? How many times have you thought there could be someone who could truly use the help in furnishing their home?
We have the perfect solution: Matthew House Furniture Bank, a non-profit organization that helps newcomers and low-income families make their house a home.
We first toured their warehouse in December during our 12 Days of Giving campaign, and met with Matthew House Ottawa Executive Director Allan Reesor-McDowell. Our tour brought us throughout the entire warehouse facility where we saw volunteers bringing in donations from a delivery truck, volunteers organizing and placing kitchen & dining furniture and accessories, and the way couches and tables are stored methodically for recipients can explore and “shop” for their needs.
We discovered how donations are received, and how families in need gain access to these items. And the most important thing we learned is how needed these donations are to keep local families & individuals in comfort.
Matthew House Furniture Bank happily accepts gently used furniture with no signs of wear & tear, and are free of stains & damage. Find the complete list of items here.
Please note there is a fee to pick up donations, starting at $60 & up, depending on the quantity & size of the items. Use their online calculator to estimate your cost & tax receipt. If you wish to bring your donation in yourself, please contact them well ahead of time to schedule your time slot.
